The first snowfall of 2008 -
no snowmen in Helsingborg

What I think:

Well, it finally happened.

It snowed today.

Winter is well and truly here in Helsingborg.

It was odd though, because it was actually a sunny day when it started snowing.

I took a few photos from our balcony to show you the progress over about a relatively short period of time (although I can't exactly say what it's relative to).

Here's the first one:
See? Sunny!

But not for long.
You can see the ground really starting to get covered here...
And then it turned into a little blizzard.

Try this at home: go to a mirror and say the word "blizzard" over and over again for five minutes and forty-three seconds. An amazing thing will happen. (Not really, you'll just look and sound like a total lunatic.)

Finally, it stopped, leaving a nice white layer. Even without the sun, it feels slightly brighter when there's a bit of snow on the ground, don't you think?

But when I looked out a while later,
I discovered that we have a comedian in the area:
Yes, someone had taken the liberty of writing OMFG and STFU in the snow. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with abbreviations on the Internet these days, OMFG stands for Octopuses Make Funny Gargoyles (I would have said Octopi myself, but this is the official thing, OK?), and STFU stands for Stubborn Tortoises Fart Upwards.

Even though I'm by no means a big fan of winter, the first snowfall is always nice. I think it's disgraceful how some people go and ruin the moment by scrawling animalistic nonsense in the beautiful purity of the freshly fallen fluffy stuff, and it's time that the Swedish government did something about it.

That's what I think.

I am soooo jealous. I love the snow. Now that I'm back in Ireland and soon to be moving to the sweltering heat of Mobile Alabama,I'll probably now see another descent snowfall for years. :(

Here in central CA, we get no snow. We just have dismal gray fog that hangs in the sky all day. On the other hand, spring comes in February, so I shouldn't complain. :)

I would just like to point out that I did attempt to make a Snowman in Helsingborg on this fateful day (well ok, the day after...but still..) but gave up after the initial 'body ball' as it was too hot and rather boring... but I think you maybe need to change the title of this post to 'no FULL snowmen in Helsingborg'...
PS, thanks for the beer! Will give you a shout when I am back in Jan.

Maybe an ascent snowfall would be nice for a change.

Heh. In 2007 we had some snow in Buenos Aires. It was the first snow here after... 89 years. Quite bad for a lad (me) who likes snow. OTOH, I liked your OMFG and STFU interpretations. Unless you de-acronymize OTOH into... Well, you'll know best.
Kudos from Buenos Aires to Helsingborg (where a while ago I bought some Ebba Grön, Imperiet, and Thåström CDs).
